DIGITAL RESTORATION

Digital ICE4™: The award-winning DIGITAL ICE4™ technology automatically removes surface defects, such as dust and scratches, from a scanned image & is more compatible with Kodachrome film.

Digital ROC™: Automatically restores original colors by analyzing the base image and applying corrections to the faded colors.

Digital GEM™: Analyzes and reduces grain caused by the film emulsion, and automatically enhances the clarity of a scanned film image while preserving its colors, gradations and sharpness.

Cropping: Minimal cropping is done so you don’t see the slide mount and to give you a larger image.

Rotation & Orientation: Each slide will be orientated correctly if they are originals and clearly marked “view from this side” or “place this side toward screen”. Some copies or duplicates of slides will not necessarily be orientated correctly because there may not be a reference to which side should scanned. We will not rotate the slide for viewing  unless they are being used for a slide show. All the slides are scanned horizontally for the largest viewing and print size.

The quality of these scans are incredible and you will not be disappointed. We recommend this process for ALL emulsion damaged negative & positive films. Included at no additional charge is the archival quality master DVD or CD media & case along with direct on disc printing (no sticky label). Other storage media additional charge.

This image, above left is a “raw” scan of badly abused 35mm slide. The same slide on the right was scanned with only the Digital ICE defect-removal activated. NO manual retouching was done!

“Digital ICE” defect-removal solution is truly one of the most amazing innovations in scanner technology we’ve ever seen. (“ICE” stands for “Image Correction Enhancement,” Under optimal circumstances, it can completely remove scratches, dust, and fingerprints from a slide or negative, while leaving the underlying image untouched!

The left image above is a “raw” scan (no enhancements or corrections) of badly abused, water damaged and dark exposed 35mm slide. PHYSICAL RECOVERY AND RESTORATION OF 35MM SLIDES

Actual sample of a customers provided water damaged slide showing the original condition (left) and the Restored slide (right)

NEW TECHNOLOGIES, FILM RECOVERY/RESTORATION/PRESERVATION TECHNIQUES, EQUIPMENT AND OUR TECHNICIANS CAN TAKE EVEN THE WORST DAMAGED FILM AND RECOVER, SCAN AND SAVE YOUR MEMORIES. THIS INCLUDES; WARPED, BRITTLE, SHRUNK, TWISTED, WATER, SMOKE & FIRE DAMAGED FILM. There are many variables that affect the stability of film materials, and each circumstance is different.

Kodak

We use Kodak film cleaning & preservative products for all physically damaged slides, negatives and motion picture film to manually clean and to remove dirt, finger prints, major dust, mold or mildew and preserve your slides, negatives or motion picture film for years to come.

WATER DAMAGED SLIDES; Recovered images can be poor to excellent. The biggest issue with water damaged film is usually the damage to, or complete removal of the emulsion (images) resulting in poor image quality and mold that can build up over time after the film has been exposed to water then left to dry. We treat and recover the film to prevent any further loss to the emulsion. The film itself is usually not too warped or shrunk unless it has been emerged in water for a lengthy time and then dried.

OPTION#2 RAW –  WITH BASIC ENHANCEMENTS  & NO CORRECTIONS

Slides must be in perfect physical condition in undamaged cardboard or plastic mounts only or additional charges apply for this option. If your slides are in good to perfect condition this option turns out extremely good because the newly scanned file looks just like the original slide. There are additional options to physically remove fingerprints and dust, provide digital colour correction or remove grain from the image. SLIDES ARE NOT SCANNED IN NUMERICAL ORDER OR BY DATE. (Options are available).

35MM, SUPER 35MM, 110, 126, 127, 127 SUPERSLIDE

PROFESSIONAL SLIDE SCANNING WITH AUTO BALANCE, CONTRAST & EXPOSURE, NO AUTO COLOUR, NO SCRATCH OR DUST REMOVAL, NO GRAIN REDUCTION IS DONE. Minimal cropping, slides are not rotated but are orientated.

RAW SLIDE SCANNING does not process the picture’s colour (image), leaving total control of the editing to the user. This means your photo does not receive any processes such as Auto colour, scratch, dust removal during the slide conversion to a digital file. WE INCLUDE: Auto Balance, Auto Exposure, Auto contrast, but no colour correction, dust removal or any other enhancements. Raw scanning is the most popular and least expensive option for those who have a lot of slides and want to do their own post work or to view the slide in its original state.

Cropping: Minimal cropping is done so you don’t see the slide mount.

Rotation & Orientation: Each slide will be orientated and scanned correctly if they are originals and being used for a slideshow and clearly marked “view from this side” or “place this side toward screen”. Some copies or duplicates of slides will not necessarily be orientated correctly because there may not be a reference to which side should scanned. All the slides are scanned horizontally for the largest viewing and print size.

J-PEG @ 2000 DPI – MOST POPULAR OPTION FOR “RAW” SLIDE SCANNING – Slides scanned “RAW” at approximately 6MB. Allows largest print size of 8″x 10″ and the most acceptable for viewing the slides on the TV, computer screen, creating a slideshow, making prints, uploading on the Internet, or for use with email. It’s also a good choice because it’s very popular and likely to be around for a long, long time.

CLEANING: OUR KINETRONICS FILM CLEANING SYSTEM CAN BE USED PRIOR TO SCANNING

The Kinetronics StaticVac Anti-Static Film Cleaner is a vacuum cleaner to be used on film. It utilizes an electronic “bipolar” ionizing system. The StaticVac produces both positive and negative ions for complete static elimination. As the film is passed through the StaticVac, the ionization system gets rid of the static on the film. Then, the gentle StaticWisk brushes wipe dust and lint away. The vacuum action draws the dust and lint into the foam filter. Even Nikon’s digital ICE tool software does not replace the StaticVac film cleaner for the removal of dust from both sides of your slides prior to scanning. Add $.05 per slide.
