TMTV is balancing active recovery projects on compromised motion-picture film while staying ready to handle well-preserved material on a high-end Lasergraphics Movie Film Scanners. The Lasergraphics systems are particularly well-suited for both ends of the spectrum: gentle sprocketless transport, optical pin registration that tolerates slight shrinkage and damaged perforations, warped-film gates, and high-resolution capture up to 6.5K with single-pass image + sound. For films already in good condition this delivers clean, stable archival scans; for material in poor shape it pairs well with specialized recovery techniques that can still extract usable images from warped, shrunken or otherwise compromised stock.
With TMTV’s 46 years (as of 2026) experience the lab can recondition Vinegar Syndrome damaged film long enough for scanning, so you receive the best possible images.
Recovery is treated as a hands-on, condition-specific art rather than a simple chemical soak which is not advised on ANY brittle film. Techniques may include preservatives, pressure recovery, ultrasonic cleaning, controlled heating/baking, plasticizer treatments, lamination (new base), and section-by-section straightening. Brittle film is strengthened; warped/buckled sections are carefully worked. TMTV emphasizes that shrinkage cannot be fully reversed and brittle film does not regain full pliability, but the goal is stabilization sufficient for high-quality scanning while preserving as much image integrity as possible.
